The UAE announces a long-term hospitality agreement reached with la Biennale di Venezia for a “Permanent Pavilion” in the Arsenale – Sale d’Armi.

Curator — Vasif Kortun

Kortun is a writer, curator and teacher in the field of contemporary visual art, and lives and works in Istanbul where he has greatly influenced the local and regional art scene.

Kortun was awarded Ninth Annual Award for Curatorial Excellence given by the Center for Curatorial Studies (2006).

He is the programs and research director of a new intra-disciplinary institution to open in 2011 in Istanbul and was the founding director of several spaces including Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center (2001-2004), and the Museum of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, New York (1993-1997).

Kortun was the chief curator of the Third and the co-curator of the Ninth Istanbul Biennials in 1992 and 2005, respectively, and has, in addition, co-curated Biennales in Taipei (2008), Sao Paolo (1998), Tirana (2003) and organized the Turkish Pavilion in Venice (2007), and 1994 and 1998 Sao Biennials. He has curated numerous exhibitions in Turkey and internationally, and received the Ninth Annual Award for Curatorial Excellence given by the Center for Curatorial Studies (2006).

Abdullah Al Saadi

Abdullah Al Saadi (b. 1967, lives and works in Khorfakan) holds a degree in English Literature from the United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain. In 1994-1996 he studied Japanese painting at Kyoto Seika University in Japan and in 1998 attended painting workshops at College of Arts, Edinburgh in Scotland. His work is a daily practice of recording, inventing normative groupings, and documenting species that are beyond scientific inquiry.

Al Saadi is a member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society.

Lateefa bint Maktoum

Lateefa bint Maktoum is an artist living and working in Dubai. She graduated from Zayed University, Latifa College in 2007 with a B.A. in Visual Arts, and is the founder and director of Tashkeel, a public studio providing specialist facilities for artists and designers based in the UAE.

Reem Al Ghaith

Reem Al Ghaith (b. 1985, lives and works in Dubai) is an artist and designer. Al Ghaith holds a BSc in Visual Communication from the School of Architecture and Design, American University of Sharjah.
